filming
I have been involved in the creation of a small number of "shorts" using 16mm film. I bought my first proper 16mm movie camera in 1988.
This is my Bolex H16 dating back to around 1960. It is still used occassionally on holiday.
absolut vodka
In 1990 I collaborated with David Hill and Anthony Pettengell in an advert for Absolut Vodka. It was produced as the entry for a competition. Winning it meant that we were shown in London cinemas for three months 1990-1991.
We all had to act in the short film. Karen was drafted in as Camerawoman. That’s me on the left. Tony Pettengell is behind me, and David Hill is on the right.
We were playing the part of Futurists, who actually invented the strange things you see here. They were modernistic musical instruments called "noise intoners". They made an awful racket that just resulted in audiences feeling slightly tense.
This is anothe still, and can be compared with the next shot of some real Futurists with real noise intoners:
Real Futurists, circa 1912.
Real Actors, circa 1990. Another shot from the Absolut Vodka set.
With our winnings, we rushed out and bought...
An Arriflex 16BL 16mm movie camera. We went on to make three more shorts.
Our films were shown in Clifton, Bristol and on Anglia Television.
Then the money ran out. It was fun while it lasted.
